MUSCAT: Indian renewable energy consulting and engineering firm SgurrEnergy is evaluating the establishment of a dedicated office in Oman as it seeks to support the Sultanate of Oman 's rapidly expanding clean energy sector with specialist technical advisory and engineering services.
The Pune-headquartered company, which has delivered renewable energy assignments in more than 55 countries over the past 23 years, said Oman has emerged as a strategic market as the country accelerates the deployment of utility-scale solar and wind projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and green hydrogen-linked infrastructure.
"We are actively evaluating the establishment of a dedicated local office in Oman to strengthen our engagement, enhance service responsiveness, and support clients more closely throughout the full project lifecycle," said Arif Aga, Director of SgurrEnergy, in an interview.
SgurrEnergy positions itself as an independent technical adviser, providing engineering consultancy across the renewable energy value chain. The company said it aims to support developers, lenders, utilities and public-sector stakeholders by ensuring renewable energy projects are technically robust, financially bankable and engineered for long-term performance under Oman's demanding climatic conditions. Its areas of expertise include renewable resource assessments, feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed engineering, owner's and lender's engineering, grid integration studies, hybrid solar-wind-storage optimisation, environmental impact assessments and technical due diligence.
As it builds its presence in Oman, SgurrEnergy intends to work closely with national stakeholders by aligning its engineering methodologies with the regulatory frameworks established by the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP), while sharing international best practices in renewable power plant engineering, battery storage and grid stability.
The company also sees opportunities to support developers participating in Oman's growing pipeline of competitive renewable energy tenders through pre-bid technical advisory and engineering support.
Beyond engineering consultancy, SgurrEnergy believes it can contribute to Oman's In-Country Value (ICV) objectives through knowledge transfer and skills development. Its plans include structured training programmes covering energy yield modelling, grid integration, asset diagnostics and performance engineering, alongside technical workshops for developers, EPC contractors and engineering professionals.
Aga said Oman possesses many of the attributes required to become a globally competitive renewable energy hub, citing its abundant solar and wind resources, extensive land availability and ambitious clean energy programme.
However, he noted that the next phase of the country's energy transition will require more than simply adding renewable generation capacity. Building a resilient, grid-integrated renewable energy system capable of supporting large-scale green hydrogen production and industrial decarbonisation will require rigorous engineering, robust risk management and integrated planning throughout the project lifecycle.
"Our long-term intent is clear: to build a presence that meaningfully contributes to Oman's energy transition, while ensuring that our global expertise is readily accessible to developers, lenders, independent power producers, EPC contractors and manufacturers across the country," Aga added.
